- Sea of Misfortune
- Description
- This is a shot from Shark Fin Cove in Davenport, CA from last Christmas 2010. I went back here in 2011 to reshoot this comp when tragedy struck.
The tide was higher than it is in this shot and the surf was raging. I had set up my tripod about 8-10 feet closer to the arch from this spot when a huge surge up to my waist pushed me up the beach and the back flow pulled my tripod with my Canon 5D MkII attached out into the ocean. I could see the three tripod legs bobbing in the crashing waves as it kept getting pulled further away. There was really nothing I could do. I left and came back hours later at low tide hoping to salvage some remains but nothing was there - it was gone.
The worst part is I had cancelled my insurance months earlier and hadn't gotten around to re-insuring my gear. Pretty stupid.
So all in all I lost the Canon 5d MkII body, Canon 17-40 f4 lens, Gitzo 1325 tripod, Bogen 3047 head, and all of that day's images.

- Crops in the Wind
- Description
- I saw this scene while stopped at a stop light in Lakeview, CA so I pulled over and took a couple shots. It was extremely windy so there was no way to avoid the motion blur other than bump the ISO setting. But the exposure was still way too long. Even so, I like this shot so I'm just going to pretend that it was intentional and my artistic vision all along.

- San Francisco Panorama
- Description
- I shot this pano from a famous vista called Twin Peaks. I normally would shoot this after dusk while there's still color in the sky but I only had one day to shoot SF so I had to compromise and shoot this one last. Twin Peaks is a pretty impressive view. You can see all the way down Market Street, City Hall, the Transamerica Pyramid, the Bay Bridge, AT&T Park and on and on. I'm definitely coming back to shoot this again.

- Last Light at Crystal Cove
- Description
- Taken Apr 30th 2008 at the far north end of Crystal Cove State Park, CA. I kind of like this one because it's a retake from a previous (failed) visit. I got the foreground rocks the way I wanted and the weather was cooperative. I did not want a clear blue sky and was pleased with these conditions.
